Groovy shop

Anyone who has ever lived in or spent time in Arizona is familiar with it's "Wild West" past. The most infamous of these spots would probably be Tombstone. The site of the deadly gun fight between The Earp brothers, along with Doc Holiday and the Clantins and McClaurys. Did you know though, that there is an old, Wild West town in Northern AZ that was just as infamous and even more of a boomtown? It's called Jerome, nicknamed "the wickedest town in the west". A 19th Century boomtown, the 4th largest in the AZ settlement, the mines that once made it famous, closed down in 1953, leaving Jerome a mear shell of it's once outragious past. During the 60's and 70's, however, artisans and hippies traveling North America began to settle in this "pretty as a picture" little town on the hill and before too long shops, galleries and restaraunts began popping up in the abandoned store fronts. Today, Jerome is home to some amazing and unique shops, including one called Fool on the Hill. Owner Kristy Fisher, a virtual master of the textile runs 2 shops side by side carrying beautiful dresses for everyone from the "hip 16 year old ready to travel the world" sort of gal, to the mature, well dressed mother in law.

I am happy to report, that as of last week, i am now carrying several of my handmade confections in Fool on the Hill. So, next time you're in Northern AZ, and ofcourse, to my fellow Prescottonians, swing by Fool on the Hill and it's sister store, Magpie to say hello to the gals and grab up something for yourself or a gift for a stylish friend~*~

Arte de Muerte Show

I have always enjoyed selling my handmade items at a good arts and crafts show. There is just something about setting up your table display and being able to meet potential customers face to face and be there to represent yourself in person. I love getting dressed up and being a part of the event~*~This past weekend was no exception~i participated in an event called Arte de Muerte Expo in Albuquerque, NM. I had attended the November show while in Alb. and while there, i just knew i wanted to be a part of it.

When i found out about the April show, i was ecstatic. This event marked the 4th of 4 events per year in it's inaugural year as an expo.
When one walked into the event center, they were probably first in awe of all the colors and festive vibe. The vendors there ranged from the most basic muerte inspired craft to the most beautiful, elaborate sculptures, to artisans who take activities from everyday life and draw them out into quite eye catching pictures of calaveras, or skeletons in action. Every artist there was genuinely happy to be there and be a part of a show that not only let us sell our "death inspired" art, but actually showcased it. i have been fascinated and inspired by the Mexican Celebration of Los Dias de los Muertes for many years and have done other events where i may have not just been around some folks who didn't understand my art, but were down right offended by it. I felt right at home at this show. These were my peeps, so to speak. The gentleman who put this show together does a really kick ass job and his partner, there with his SW ghost story books ad just the right touch of Macabre~*~The next Arte de Muerte Expo will be held July 11th and 12th~*~i can't wait~*~*~

Places to shop

I currently have items for sale at a few new places in Prescott~
There is a shopping area in downtown Prescott called Bashford Courts. It's on the corner of Gurley and Montezuma, and most of the shops are on the 2nd and 3rd floors, above Prescott Brew Pub. On the 2nd floor is a new shop called Hop Sing, that carries vintage and new, unique cloting and accesories. I have hair clips there now, and will hopefully continue to restock my items in this shop~

~*~Then second shop now carrying my creations is on the 3rd floor of Bashford Courts. It's called Heart and Soul. It's a boutique that carries very hip, urban clothing with lots and lots of "bling". Most of the items in the shop have flames and skuls and tattoo's looking images. They are now carrying my "Flaming Heart" pendants~*~

~Swing by both of these sweet little locally owned boutiques next time you're shopping around the Prescott area.

Custom Collage Cards

*sigh* i LOVE paper art~*~there are so many great background papers out there these days, one can seriously make a collage for any and every genre and style. Most of your neighborhood scrapbook shops, or craft stores also offers up a variety of stickers and stamps and different bladed scissors and other fun embelishments, or you can use your imagination and use cut outs from magazines, or found objects. One of my favorite techniques is ripping around a picture, instead of cuttung, i've made it sort of a signature style, as you can see from the following pictures.

These are samples of cards i've made recently for friends and family members.

~For my friend Thea when she got a new job~
